Swim Lessons

Yesterday we began taking swim lessons with Lucas' buddy, Sam, at the YMCA. Lucas practiced floating on his back and kicking across the pool using a float belt and kickboard. There was so much chlorine in the water that Lucas' chin bubbled the entire time!

Balloons!!!

You should have seen the look on Lucas' face when these balloons were delivered at our door! Thanks Nee Nee (Lucas' babysitter)! I told him that Nee Nee sent those to make his boo boo better and he said, "It IS all better Mommy!" Thanks Nee Nee!

The First Stitches

Well, I figured the day would come. We were at a friend's pool for about 10 minutes today before Lucas slipped and banged his chin. He was leaning on a break-away basketball goal (he was unaware that it wouldn't hold his weight as he leaned to get a ball) and the goal fell and down he went. He hit his chin on the side and then fell into the water. I was RIGHT THERE (ugh), his face barely went under but it was too late for the chin. It was a steady waterfall of blood down his neck and chest, but as it slowed I could tell it was pretty wide open. We went to urgent care garbed in our bathing suits (my great friend Cathy went with me and missed her own get-together). Nothing like sitting in a wet bathing suit for 3 hours!! After an hour they called us back and put numbing cream on it, we waited another hour and then they put 3 stitches in his chin. They had to strap him down so he couldn't move and I think that bothered him more than anything. He left with 4 Mickey Mouse stickers, a Spongebob ball, and a yellow sucker. He's doing great tonight. He remembers that it's there every once in awhile and complains for a minute until he gets busy doing something else. The good news is that they will dissolve on their own and can get wet after 24 hours. The boy is a trooper! He was smiling and giving high fives as soon as they let him out of the "straight jacket". His face has had a rough 2 weeks with the black eye, busted lip, and now this! He's all boy!

Weekend in Chicago

I was asked to be a bridesmaid in my college roommate's wedding this weekend in Chicago, so we decided to make a vacation out of it. We stayed right downtown by the pier and one block from Michigan Ave. My mom and dad went with us to help with Lucas and to watch him during the rehearsal and wedding. We had a great time. We went to a Cub's game on Thursday. Friday, while I had a bridesmaid's lunch in the Hancock building, Joe, Lucas, and my mom and dad went on a boat ride. We all spent the afternoon together on Michigan Ave. That evening Joe and I went to the church and the Sear's Tower for the rehearsal/dinner. On Saturday we went to the Shedd Aquarium, which Lucas loved! I had to take off early to get my hair done with the girls. A trolley picked us up at the hotel and took us to several spots in the city for pictures and then to the church. We ended at the reception at a 5-star Italian restaurant on Michigan Ave. with a 5 course meal and band. It was a wonderful weekend! Thanks Mom and Dad, we couldn't have done it without you!

It's a ....

G-I-R-L!!! We are SO excited! She was not being very cooperative, but now that we know she's a SHE we're glad she's modest. Lucas was so cute. Going into the building he said, "My baby's in dere," as he points to the office building. I had been asking him if he wanted to go see the baby and he just assumed...so we walk in and there's a little girl who's about 2 also and he says, "There she is!" Like we just get to pick one out! All the measurements and heartbeat etc. looked great and that was what was most important. We are very thankful and blessed. When I was talking to Lucas afterward I said something about him being a big brother and having a sister and he pumped his arm and said, "Woo hoo." On the way to Chicago Lucas said, "My sister's a BOY"! I love these confused statements! He'll be a great big brother!

Ouch

Yesterday Lucas fought in his first boxing match....oh wait....he went to church and the pew won! He was sitting right on the edge and leaned forward to get a book when he slipped right off and hit is eye on the pew in front of him. He WAILED. I had to leave church and walk across the street to get ice from my grandma's house because it swelled and got black immediately. That boy just wouldn't look like himself without a bruise on his forehead. Believe it or not, it actually looks worse today. He looks like he's wearing dark purple eyeshadow!

End of the School Year Party

One of my former (as of 2 days) students had an end of the year summer party. There was an ice cream truck, the Bubble Truck, balloon animals, tattoos, a bouncer and pony rides! Lucas had a great time! One more teacher day to go and then 3 days off before summer school starts!
